Jimbo Meador

Stories from the woods, the water & a life well lived

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

James Powell “Jimbo” Meador, Sr.

James Powell “Jimbo” Meador, Sr. is a native of Mobile, Alabama. He grew up in the mostly untamed woods, creeks and swamps of Central Mobile County where he spent his time hunting, fishing, trapping and horseback riding … everything a kid of the 1940’s and 1950’s would want. Each summer, Jimbo’s family packed everything up, including the milk cow, and moved to Battles Wharf, AL on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay where his obsession for the saltwater started.

Jimbo went on to have many careers and jobs, most of which involved the saltwater, where he made countless friends from Key West to Nova Scotia and from Vancouver to the Yucatan. He is a passionate defender of the environment, especially the Mobile-Tensaw Delta and Mobile Bay. He is known by many for the blending of his spiritual philosophy, knowledge and love for the outdoors and his gift of storytelling. Jimbo’s stories have been published in many newspapers and magazines.

He has been married to Lynn McPhillips Meador for over 60 years and they live in Point Clear, AL. He has one son, Bo Meador (wife Chase Dodson Meador), and a daughter, Carolyn Marston (husband, Dale Marston), and 7 grandchildren (Elizabeth, Amelia, Mary Katherine, & “Bo” Meador and Bryce, Harper & James Marston), with whom he loves spending his time.

What started out as a book of birthday reflections almost 20 years ago has evolved into a compilation of short stories written by and about Jimbo – A Life Well Lived.
